Have you ever wanted to plant something, but you weren't sure that it was the right fit for you? "How much water does it need?" or "Is this a difficult plant to grow?" questions I'm sure many of you have asked yourself at least once. The thing is, while there are recommended values for specific requirements, each environenment is unique. The growing conditions in your backyard may be different to the growing conditions in my yard or Sandra's yard or even Kevin's full scale commercial garden.
To that end, I've compiled a list of plants that give you both their common names (what we call them here) and the scientific names! It also goes a bit further than that. Included is a difficulty rating scale for each crop, their likelihood of attracting pests, diseases, their water requirements and their sunlight requirement.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out on social media! There's a downloadable pdf to the bottom of this post.
Scientific Name The world is diverse and what we may call a plant can vary from place to place and across languages. The scientific name is important to make sure we’re all on the same page, talking about the same crop or plant. Rating Scale
What does it mean? Well, simply put, the Difficulty refers to the relative ease at which the crop can be grown. Pest incidence refers to how likely the plant is to be affected by insect pests.. Disease looks at how common it is for problems related to plant health and nutrition to arise.
